Residents Can Now Call Neighborhood Code Compliance to Report Dead Trees

Residents can now report dead and hazardous trees to Neighborhood Code Compliance by calling 311.

Neighborhood Code Compliance is responsible for new regulations regarding dead and hazardous trees; the changes were made to City Code in 2017 in response to concerns about safety from neighborhood leaders. Neighborhood Code will issue a 30-day order to abate (remove) if trees are certified by an arborist to be completely dead and are in a location where they could damage property or fall into an alley or roadway.

The Johnnie Mae Farm Stand, located at 2518 Winter St., is now closed for the season.

This season, volunteers and staff harvested and distributed more than 2,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables grown on-site. Collard, turnip, and mustard greens; onions; radishes; tomatoes; sweet corn; summer squash; peas; green beans; peppers; cauliflower; cucumbers; broccoli; okra; potatoes; cabbage; eggplant; watermelon and many more were all been available at the farm stand.

Operation of the Johnnie Mae Farm is a partnership between the City of Fort Wayne’s Office of Housing & Neighborhood Services and the Purdue Extension - Allen County.

In 2015, the City of Fort Wayne’s Office of Housing & Neighborhood Services completed the historic renovation of former fire station #9 and equipped it with a state-of-the-art commercial grade kitchen, which is available for rent or use by community groups. The City and the Purdue Extension – Allen County also began farming the vacant residential lots behind the fire station and have been working to distribute fresh produce to local residents ever since. The farm is named after long-time neighborhood advocate Johnnie Mae White.
