City unveils next steps for Riverfront development

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The City of Fort Wayne's Community Development Division, joined by members of the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department and Mayor Tom Henry unveiled plans for the next phase of Riverfront development.

The next phase includes the creation of trails, a wetland boardwalk, an open-air pavilion, two new boat docks and more open park space. Additionally, another section of tree canopy trail will be added with two overlooks. There will also be new signage and more access points to the river.

Additional parking now available in growing downtown Fort Wayne

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division announced today that an additional public parking lot is now open near Promenade Park.

In 2020, the City acquired the building, formerly owned by The Rescue Mission, through the Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission.  The building has since been demolished and the temporary parking lot, located at 301 West Superior Street, has been installed to respond to an immediate need for more parking in the area.

$4.9 Million Distributed for Rent and Utility Assistance

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division today announced that the Emergency Rental Assistance program has opened up the application process to allow people who have already received assistance to reapply for additional rent and utility support.

To date more than 1,450 households have received $4.9 million through the Emergency Rental Assistance program. Another $500,000 has been approved and funds will be disbursed in the coming weeks.
