City of Fort Wayne to acquire PepsiCo facility for future riverfront development

Fort Wayne, Ind. – As part of the vision to create a dynamic riverfront transformation, the Fort Wayne City Council approved an agreement with P-Americas, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PepsiCo, Inc, (Pepsi) to acquire its 6.4 acres located in the heart of the Riverfront area.

The acquisition of the 6.4 acres, which includes the distribution facility, located at 1207 N. Harrison St., will be for $4.5 million. The Redevelopment Commission’s vision for the property is utilize it to attract new private investments that will bring additional revenue to the city, providing a more compatible use to the adjacent neighborhoods and public investment in the Riverfront public space areas.

Public invited to Pillars of Hope and Justice artist talk

Fort Wayne, Ind.- The Fort Wayne Public Art Commission will be hosting an artist talk regarding the Pillars of Hope and Justice Monument in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event will be held on Thursday, June 9th at 6:00 p.m. in Overlook Hall at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art located at 311 E. Main Street. 

The talk will feature one of the artists, Shane Allbritton of RE:site, along with team member Caitlin Dashiell. The RE:site team will share inspiration for the design and information on fabrication. It will be held in conjunction with the Museum’s Second Thursday Event which begins at 5:00 p.m.

Emergency Rent and Utility Assistance Program Closes

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division today announced that the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) has closed and will not be accepting new applications.

The program was established with federal funding to assist those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic by temporarily assisting with rent and utility bills. At this time, the City has committed all of the program funds available. Although the City does not anticipate receiving additional funding for this program, it will continue to pursue other funding to assist in keeping families in their homes.

Tall Grass/Weed Program Starts Today

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The City of Fort Wayne’s Tall Grass/Weed Program kicks off today, May 23, 2022. Neighborhood Code Compliance is responsible for enforcing the City’s Tall Grass/Weed Program, which calls for weeds or grass to be no taller than nine inches.

Reports of high grass or weeds that exceed nine inches will be accepted beginning today; the public should call 311 or 260-427-8311 to report a possible violation. Individuals reporting a violation will need to have the property’s specific street address to register the concern.

City of Fort Wayne celebrates Historic Preservation Month

Fort Wayne, Ind.- The City of Fort Wayne is celebrating National Historic Preservation Month by highlighting the City’s historic neighborhoods, buildings and landscapes throughout the month of May.

To promote and commemorate the month, the City’s Community Development Division will share facts and photos about unique historic districts across the City via social media posts on the Fort Wayne Neighborhoods Facebook page and on Twitter, @FWNeighborhoods. The division is also encouraging residents to join the celebration by sharing photos that depict Fort Wayne’s rich history on social media along with the hashtag #PreserveFW22.

Dr. Matthew Desmond delivers keynote for 2022 Fair Housing Summit

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Pulitzer Prize winner Dr. Matthew Desmond led the keynote address for 2022 Fair Housing Summit, hosted by the City of Fort Wayne’s Metropolitan Human Relations Commission and the Office of Housing & Neighborhood Services.

Desmond’s best seller Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City has effectively changed the understanding of inequity and economic exploitation in America. Desmond is the founder and Principal Investigator of Princeton’s Eviction Lab.

Developer selected for the “The Wedge” at Promenade Park

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division announced today a developer that has become familiar to Fort Wayne will invest in another private development project next to Promenade Park.

Indianapolis-based Barrett & Stokely, Inc. plans to construct a mixed-use project that would sit on the 2.28-acre site known as “The Wedge.” The site is located northwest of Promenade Park on the north side of the Saint Marys River and connected to the park by the old Wells Street Bridge.

Partnership with City, local developer to bring new office building Southeast

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Mayor Tom Henry, joined by the City’s Community Development Division and other public officials, announced a local real estate company plans to build its headquarters within the Southtown Centre shopping area.

Linda Golden, owner of LegacyOne, Inc., plans to build a 6,000 square foot building on 1.3-acre parcel of land, bounded by Menards to the west, Southtown Crossing to the north and east and South Phoenix Parkway to the south.
