Mayor Henry leads celebration of grand opening for The Riverfront at Promenade Park and Riverfront Park Phase IIa

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Fort Wayne’s continued growth and momentum were on display today as Mayor Tom Henry led a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for The Riverfront at Promenade Park and the completion of Riverfront Park Public Space Phase IIa.

The City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division, Parks and Recreation Department, development partner Barrett & Stokely, elected officials, and community leaders were part of the special event.

Mayor Henry announces awarding of 27 grants to non-profits Federal dollars will support homeless, basic needs, employment and youth services

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry today announced that 27 local non-profit organizations will receive funding from the City of Fort Wayne’s federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) dollars, the City’s remaining allocation of CDBG- COVID Cares Act dollars, and CDBG Emergency Solution dollars.

Approximately $470,000 will be available to help low- and moderate-income residents with shelter, basic needs, employment skills, language translation and interpretation, and youth development.

City of Fort Wayne officially dedicates MLK monument Pillars of Hope and Justice

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Fort Wayne Public Art Commission dedicated Pillars of Hope and Justice, a public art monument commemorating the June 5, 1963, visit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to Fort Wayne, during which he gave a speech sharing his vision for nonviolent resistance.

At a public event Monday evening, King’s son, Martin Luther King III, was on hand to help city and community leaders dedicate the monument, which is located at the northwest corner of West Main and Ewing streets in downtown Fort Wayne. King was joined in making remarks at the dedication event by Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry, sculpture artists Shane Allbritton and Norman Lee, the Rev. Dr. Bill McGill of Imani Baptist Church, and City Council members Michelle Chambers and Russ Jehl.

City of Fort Wayne provides event details and traffic restrictions for Pillars of Hope and Justice dedication June 5

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The City of Fort Wayne has provided updates for public parking and traffic restrictions surrounding the dedication of the Pillars of Hope and Justice public art monument on June 5 in downtown Fort Wayne.

Pillars of Hope and Justice commemorates the June 5, 1963 visit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to Fort Wayne, during which he gave a speech at the former Scottish Rite Auditorium sharing his vision for nonviolent resistance.

Public Art Commission Seeking Artist Proposals For SHOUT-OUT: Fort Wayne! Pilot Program

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Fort Wayne Public Art Commission is seeking proposals from artists for Phase 1 of a pilot program, SHOUT-OUT: Fort Wayne!, to work collaboratively with two neighborhood association leaders and residents to express a story, idea, or characteristic of each neighborhood through temporary public art installations.

Mayor Henry and community celebrate groundbreaking for first market rate, single-family housing development in southeast Fort Wayne in nearly 50 years

 

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Mayor Tom Henry and the City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division today led a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on a major single-family housing development in southeast Fort Wayne.

Roosevelt Reserves is a 131-lot subdivision, the largest market rate single-family housing development in southeast Fort Wayne in nearly 50 years.  The development is situated on 126 acres of land at Tillman and Hessen Cassel roads, and the total investment is expected to be approximately $40 million over the next three to four years.

As part of National Bike Month, the City of Fort Wayne and the Northeastern Indiana Regional Coordinating Council to launch an online bike and walk survey

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division and the Northeastern Indiana Regional Coordinating Council (NIRCC) have launched an Active Transportation Survey.

This survey is part of a collaborative planning effort between the two agencies and is designed to gather insight into the public’s preferences and usage of bike and walking infrastructure.
